Recommended for low to moderate deer pressure on small to moderate acreages.
Vertical electric fences have been effective on small and intermediate acreages under low to moderate deer pressure. Vertical fences are generally simpler to construct and use less horizontal space than the 2-dimensional fences. Alternatively, under high deer pressure the vertical fence lacks the 2-dimensional design features which diminish greatly the inclination for deer to interact with the barrier. The lower wire of vertical designs should be no higher than 10 inches above the ground. The remaining wires should be spaced at 8 to 10-inch intervals to the desired height. Fences as low as 4 feet in height have worked on small plots while a height of 7 feet has worked well on larger acreages.
